What we
hold to.
We're a Black church shaped by the Gospel, the historic Black Church tradition, and the enduring call to justice and liberation. As a Missionary Baptist congregation, we celebrate the priesthood of all believers, soul competency, and religious liberty—progressive in witness, faithful in worship, and rooted in a faith that sets people free.
We believe Scripture is the living, inspired Word of God—sacred and authoritative, and always read in community. We engage it honestly, wrestle with it faithfully, and trust it to lead us toward love, justice, and liberation.
We believe in one God, made known in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. A God whose love exceeds every name we give it—relational, ever-present, and actively at work in our lives, our city, and the struggle for a just world.
We believe salvation is the gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ—never earned, always given. It is deeply personal but never private: God's saving work makes us whole, sets us free, and draws us into the healing of the world.
We practice baptism by immersion—a believer's public declaration of faith. It marks our identification with the death and resurrection of Jesus and our entrance into a community committed to living that new life together.
We believe the church is more than a building. It's a community of believers growing together in worship, discipleship, and service—a people called to be a prophetic witness for justice and love, within our walls and far beyond them.
We live in hope of Christ's return—the promise that God will one day set all things right, heal every wound, and bring justice and restoration to a broken world. And so we work now for the world we're waiting for.
90 years in
six moments.
The church was planted on Chicago's South Side, quickly becoming known for its live radio broadcasts and deep commitment to community.
Growing membership led to a move from the Bronzeville neighborhood to Chatham and a new name: New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church.
The church became a hub for civil rights, gospel music, and community support, including the launch of a daycare facility.
Exponential growth in membership, ministry, and outreach. Over $100K in scholarships awarded. A food pantry serving 150–200 families weekly. A 1,400-seat worship facility completed in 2008.
A new era of innovation begins: a church rebrand, the COV Care Foundation, healthcare partnerships, mental health services, and 21+ new community partnerships.
From a small South Side plant to a multigenerational force for good, The Cov stands ready for God's next chapter.
